When Lord Vishnu performed a Ganesh Puja

Lord Vishnu grew agitated. He could not find his conch – Valampuri. Then he heard someone blowing Valampuri on Mount Kailash. Lord Vishnu prayed to Lord Shiva and asked him to get Bal Ganesha to return the conch.  Lord Shiva advised Vishnu to perform a Ganesh puja. Lord Vishnu agreed. The merciful Lord Ganesha returned the conch.  The form of Lord Ganesha that returned the Valampuri is known as the Valampuri Ganesh who is depicted with his trunk facing right instead of the customary left.

Why Tulsi Leaf should not be offered to Lord Ganesh???

Tulsi, the daughter of Dharmaraja, the God of righteousness, was roaming about in the world in ecstatic devotion to Lord Narayana, in her youthful days and came upon the banks of the sacred river Ganga. There she wandered into a serene ashram full of fragrant flowers and plants swaying in cool breeze. She saw Lord Ganesha, who was in the prime of his youth, beautifully dressed in yellow silks, and lost in deep contemplation on Lord Krishna.

Captivated by the beauty of Lord Ganesha, she entreated him to marry her. Lord Ganesha turned down the proposal, saying that he was least interested in married life. Tulsi became angry and cursed Him saying : “You shall surely marry !”, whereupon He also pronounced a countercurse on her : “You too shall get married, but to an Asura, and thereafter you shall be cursed to be born as a plant by the wise men”.

Realising her mistake, Tulsi pleaded for mercy, and extolled Lord Ganesha with divine hymns. Lord Ganesha relented and said: “Though you shall be born as a plant, you willinherit the essence of all fragrance. All the gods will be happy with your fragrance, and Lord Hari will be specially glad to receive worship with your leaves. But you shall not be acceptable in the worship offered to me, except on Chathurthi days”. So saying, Lord Ganesha left that place and went to Badrikashram.

|| Purushottama Maasam or Adhika maasam ||

Adhik Maas or Purushottam Maas is a special period of time in the Hindu calendar.Duration of Adhik Maas is from 17th June to 16th July 2015. It is an extra lunar month which occurs once every three years, as mentioned in the Vasishtha Siddhanta.

Adhik Mass, also known as Purushottam Maas or Mal Maas is a time when people are advised not to perform ceremonies like annaprashan, naamkaran and grah pravesh.This is because the strength of the effects of the Navgrahas is quite strong during this time.

It is a time for the purification of one’s mind, body and soul, and for their sins to be absolved. If someone is affected by a particular dosh (mainly related to any of the Navgrahas), the Purushottam or Adhik Maas is the ideal time to get rid of it.

Shaktyavesa-avataras – Kumaras, Narada Muni, Lord Parashurama, and Lord Brahma.

The last kind of avataras are what is called the shaktyavesha-avataras. These are the living beings who are empowered by the Supreme to act in certain ways or accomplish a particular mission. 

The power of knowledge was given to the Kumaras.The power of devotion to the Lord was given to Narada.Brahma was, of course, empowered with the ability to create.Parashurama was given the power to kill the many rogues and thieves who were on the planet at His time. Whenever the Lord is present in someone by a portion of His various potencies, that living entity is considered a shaktyavesha-avatara – a living being invested with special power.
